0052_GEO_FPI_5_E Project

The Cross Border Observatory for the Iberian Pyrite Belt Geo-economic valorization GEO_ FPI is a research project financed from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) within the program INTERREG V-A Spain– Portugal (POCTEP) 2014-2020, corresponding to the public announcement passed by the European Commission by means of Decision C(2015) 893 of 12 February 2015. The assessed cost of the project is 1,156,070.40 € and ERDF’s approved grant is 867,052.80 €.

The implementation period for the project expires on the 31 December 2018. The intervention area of the project is confined to the Iberian Pyrite Belt (FPI), which extends through Alentejo and Algarve in Portugal and through Andalusia in Spain, from the western border of the province of Seville, a large part of the province of Huelva and to the Portuguese Atlantic coast, measuring approximately 250 km long and 40 km wide.

The main beneficiary of the project is the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain. Additionally, the General Directorate of Industry, Energy and Mines of the Ministry of Employment, Enterprise and Commerce of the Andalusian Government (JA) and the Portuguese National Laboratory for Energy and Geology (LNEG) and the Municipal Chamber of Aljustrel (CMA) are partners of the project.
